The Water Research Institute (IRSA) of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR), part of the Department of Earth System Sciences and Environmental Technologies (DSSTTA), regards the sharing of knowledge as an integral part of its mission. Its outreach activities connect water resources research with the scientific community, institutions, industry and the public, promoting the conscious and sustainable use of water and contributing to the protection of aquatic ecosystems.
Seminars
The Institute organizes scientific seminars where researchers and national and international guests present results, methodologies and research perspectives on topics such as water quality and management, aquatic ecosystems, water treatment and reuse, emerging contaminants and climate change. The seminars provide opportunities for interdisciplinary exchange and training for early-career researchers and students.
Conferences
IRSA promotes and takes part in organizing conferences, workshops and meetings at national and international level, fostering the sharing of research results and the creation of new scientific collaborations.
Public Engagement
The Institute carries out public engagement activities aimed at the general public and schools: school visits, educational workshops, laboratory tours, participation in events such as European Researchers’ Night and days dedicated to water and the environment, as well as informative content shared through its website and social media channels. The goal is to make water research accessible and to foster scientific culture and environmental awareness.
Memoranda of Understanding
IRSA signs memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and framework agreements with research bodies, universities, public institutions and organizations, in Italy and abroad, to define areas of scientific cooperation, exchange of expertise, researcher mobility and joint project development. [
IRSA Partnerships
The Institute works within a network of collaborations with universities, research bodies, local and national authorities, environmental agencies, water utilities, companies and international organizations. These partnerships, also developed within national and European projects, strengthen the impact of research and support its application to policy and water resources management.
Technology Transfer
IRSA transfers knowledge, technologies and methodologies to companies, public bodies and service providers, enhancing the value of its research results. Activities include collaboration with the private sector, consultancy and scientific-technical support, development and protection of patents and know-how, and support for innovation initiatives in water treatment, environmental monitoring and the circular economy.
